Nature, in it's simplicity is pure power. I had been on just one of many week long photo shoots in Maine's Acadia National Park. I noticed this isolated portion of pond reeds while scouting locations. It was mid-day, the light harsh and the wind was brisk so I knew I had to return. I've always been fascinated with the beauty of the inland lakes located on Mt. Desert Island, especially Jordan Pond and Eagle lake.
I finally returned for the sunset event, the waters were absolutely calm and the setting was as tranquil as one could imagine. I began with a wonderful set of exposures I made as the sky was filled with amazing hues of magenta. As the warm tones faded, I quickly moved myself into position to photograph this delicate composition. From this angle the shadows of Penobscot mountain and the Bubbles were reflected in the shallow water. I knew right away this would make a wonderful natural framing for the shot! The beauty of this scene is it's simplicity, as it is almost exclusively tones and textures and variations in light with a bare minimum of graphic subjects.
